Saddle Peak Elementary School

Belgrade, Montana

Project Description

The population of Belgrade Montana has grown as many families moved to the Gallatin Valley. Originally built in 2012, Saddle Peak Elementary School was quickly in need of upgrades to accommodate the growing student body.  AE Dynamics staff, having served as Engineer of Record for the original building, were tasked with designing and renovating 7,000 sq ft of space. The work included doubling the size of the Commons area and adding a conference room. A new library space was also created (as the original library space was used for the Commons expansion). The new library was uniquely designed. It is an elevated building over a courtyard between the classroom wings. This design worked within the confines of the existing construction and occupant circulation of the building.

As the structural engineer, AE Dynamics performed a detailed seismic review of the existing structure as well as a bi-direction steel moment frame design for the addition in order to maintain maximum openness in the original courtyard.  AE Dynamics also performed special inspections during the construction of the addition and existing building renovations.
